DescriptionWhite Nothe from the shore below the undercliff - geograph.org.uk - 266786.jpg |
English: White Nothe from the shore below the undercliff, Dorset, England. Looking towards the nose of White Nothe, which isn't so white anymore. The white is due to the underlying chalk which dips southwards here. At the point where the nose meets the sea the Upper Greensand outcrops - visible as a darker band below the chalk. The boulders in the foreground are fallen debris of the chalk and greensand formations. As its name suggests, the greensand is an olive-green coloured sandstone and often occurs below chalk in Britain. |
