Description
English: In the past few days, the southwest of Ireland has been affected by a series of wildfires, which have spread rapidly due to the dry weather conditions and strong winds. They have impacted several areas, causing widespread concern among the local communities, although no damage to property or infrastructure has been reported. According to data from the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), one of the modules of the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS), over 20 wildfires have affected the region, resulting in the burning of over 1,000 hectares of land. This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 27 February 2023, shows a fire raging north of Schull, a town located in the municipal district of West Cork. Copernicus services and satellites provide key open data information for monitoring wildfires and the damage they cause.
