| Description |
English: William Henry "Will" Chase (1874–1965) was an American physician and politician. Chase was one of the earliest residents of Cordova, Alaska and served as its mayor a total of 24 years between 1910 and 1955. In this photo, he had already served his first one-year term and relinquished the office to his successor. He was one of a number of prominent Cordova residents pictured following the Cordova Coal Party, a protest against United States coal policy and the importation of coal from Canada, when the surrounding area held plenty of coal that residents were legally prohibited from mining. |
