Français : Willette A. - Ink - La purée-Saint Germain - Portrait d'Eugénie Buffet - 28,8x20,5cm; la femme représentée est de façon certaine Eugénie Buffet (1866-1934), célèbre chanteuse de music-hall, fondatrice en 1902 avec son compagnon, le peintre Léopold Stevens, du cabaret éphémère « La Purée » au 75 boulevard de Clichy qui ferma en mars 1903 pour cause de démolition de l’immeuble :
« Je fondai, sur des bases nouvelles, un nouveau cabaret, en plein Montmartre, boulevard de Clichy, sous le nom de Cabaret de La Purée. J'avais, pour mon spectacle d'ouverture, réuni les noms de : Philippe Garnier, Louis Marsolleau, Vincent Hyspa, Delphin, Marcel Legay, Émile Ronn, Léo Daniderff, Victor Tourtal et la grande artiste Louise France » Le rapprochement notamment avec des affiches d’époque, comme celle réalisée par son compagnon ne laisse aucun doute sur l’identification. Le dessin porte la mention manuscrite « Hyspa invenit A. Willette delexit », comme il est d’usage dans les marges des gravures ; Vincent Hyspa est donc le concepteur de cette composition et Willette le réalisateur ; cependant « delexit » est un barbarisme, peut être une extension erronée de l’abréviation usuelle « del. » (pour « delineavit ») pour indiquer le dessinateur, ou encore un parfait incorrect du verbe latin « delego » (on pourrait comprendre alors « A. Willette par délégation »), mais d’autres interprétations pourraient être envisagées, le barbarisme pouvant éventuellement être intentionnel. Vincent Hyspa (1865-1938) fut un acteur, écrivain, compositeur, humoriste et chanteur qui se produisit dans le cabaret en question : « je débutai, il y a environ dix ans au Chat Noir et me voilà maintenant à la Purée ». La symbolique qui se rattache à St Germain et aux clés reste à préciser; elle va certainement plus loin que l’humour lié à « la purée Saint Germain », une purée de pois cassés qui fut servie apparemment pour la première fois lors du banquet d'inauguration de la ligne de chemin de fer de Paris à Saint-Germain en 1837. |
