English: U.S. Civil War Pension (general index card) for William Henry Egle, who served as a surgeon for the 116th U.S. Colored Troops; and the 47th Pennsylvania, Emergency Militia of 1863 (a 1-month militia unit which differed from the 47th Pennsylvania Infantry, a 3-year volunteer regiment); and assistant surgeon for the 96th Pennsylvania Infantry. Egle later became a noted historian and author, as well as the State Librarian of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (1887-1889). |
