Description
English: Watercolor and bodycolor on paper, with scratching out

14 1/2 X 10 in., 38 X 25 cm. Signed, l.r., W. HUNT

Hunt painted at least a dozen watercolors during his career which had as subjects chldren and young people praying. Many, like this example, show the subjects kneeling with their hands held together. Many include rosearies to remove any doubt as to the explicit religios meaning. It may seem unusual that an avowed athiest, such as Hunt, would paint such subjects, but it may have been motivated by the artist's desire to paint all forms of human activity rather than by any religious sentiment held by Hunt himself.
