Description
From the auction notes: The wooden brigantine 'Birgitte' was built by H.L. Hansen at Odense, Denmark in 1875. Registered at 189 tons gross (163 net), she measured 111 1/2 feet in length with a 22 foot beam and mostly traded in and around the North Sea. This portrait of her, dated 1876, was probably commissioned to mark her first trip to the British Isles. The signal flags are showing her callsign, NPMT. Birgitte was owned by Birgittes Rhederi A/S, in Odense Denmark. The vessel was lost in the North Sea in June 1910 after springing a leak. Additional info from jmarcussen.dk (in Danish).
