Short title	Porträt der Reichsäbtissin Maria Williburg Frey von Rottenmünster, die die Zisterzienserinnenabtei bei Rottweil fast vierzig Jahre lang (1687-1725) regierte. Die Äbtissin von Rottenmünster war Landesherrin über das Kloster mit seinem ganzen Besitztum. Sie hatte dort die höchste landesherrliche Gewalt inne; sie durfte die niedere und höhere Gerichtsbarkeit in ihrem Gebiet ausüben. Außerdem hatte sie das Recht, Steuern einzuziehen und Zölle zu erheben, sowie das Recht der freien Pürsch auf ihrem Gebiet. Sie war Mitglied des Reichstages und des Schwäbischen Reichskreises.<br>Das Kloster war 1643 von württembergischen Truppen zerstört worden und unter der Vorgängerin Freys, der Äbtissin Ursula Scherlin (1658-1687) durch die Vorarlberger Baumeister Michael Beer und Michael Thumb wieder aufgebaut worden.
