Description
English: The Wilson Theatre, now the Edna Boykin Cultural Center, located at 108 Nash Street NE in Wilson, North Carolina, was built in 1919 for Dr. L. V. Grady as an opera house which presented vaudeville and burlesque acts, as well as silent movies, and the "talkies" when they were developed. After falling into disrepair, in the 1970s it became a venue showing X-rated films. The City of Wilson bought the theatre in 1984, and organized a non-profit company to restore and renovate the theatre. This company merged with the Arts Council of Wilson in 1995 in order to complete the revival of the theatre. The building is a contributing property to the Wilson Central Business–Tobacco Warehouse Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
