Description
English: Winch base. This is on open moorland and is made of concrete. The metal protruding is pieces of railway line. The area was quarried for stone during the construction of nearby reservoirs and there were temporary lines laid for this purpose, many of which are still visible in aerial photographs. This area was used as a "puddle field", i.e. a source of clay, and there was a self-acting, double-track incline down to a puddle mill in what is now Lower Gorple Reservoir from this point. This object could have been the base for a winch.
