English: Winton: The Parkstone & Heatherlands Winton's newest pub, a Wetherspoon's house, will open on Monday 21 April, 2008. The site's previous use was as a homeware store. It is on the corner of Wimborne and Latimer Roads and the rest of the building comprises Latimer Court, recent dwelling conversions.
The somewhat surprising name Parkstone and Heatherlands being adjacent suburbs of Poole, 3 or 4 miles from here stems from the fact that the Parkstone & Heatherlands Co-Operative Society opened a grocery store here on 12 July 1912. However, the Winton Forum website (here: http://www.wintonforum.co.uk/shoppingpast.html ) suggests that this is something of a misnomer, as it shows a photograph of the "Parkstone & Bournemouth" Co-op. |
