Description

English: The almost 400 years old archetype for the weather vane on the Glucsburgh (Neue Straße 21, Goslar, Germany) can be found on the roof of the town museum in Porvoo, a small town in southern Finland. It symbolizes a hybrid between a Nordic wolf and an eastern dragon protecting the house from evil (Merja Herranen, personal comm. November 10, 2011). The basement of the weather vane contains a cartouche with documents describing the development of the Glucsburgh. The weather vane is made of solid copper with a mace on top. The mace is the most famous weapon of the middle ages, but also a symbol of Venus. The weather vane is the craftsmanship of Harald Otto, metal spinner in the Thuringian Eichsfeld (Kleiner Iberg 7, 37359 Effelder).
