Although the bulk of the congregations ofits numerous churches is coi:ii posed of foreigners, stilllarge numbers of the most opulent and respectable citi-zens and their families flock to the magnificent altarsplanted in their glorious churches, many of which are 38 Wonders of a Great City. unsuipassed for Avonclei-ful ornamentation, and thegrandeur and sweetness of their music. The Cathedral of St. Patricks recently erected, isone of the most divinely beautiful churches on thiscontinent, and occupies a site every way worthy of its1)eauty. Although two millions of dollars have alreadyheen paid out for its construction, it is deemed thathalf a million dollars more will scarce suffice to thoroughlyfinish it. \
