English: Woodnock Lock, Aire & Calder A boat approaching Woodnock Lock on the Aire & Calder Navigation from the west.
The River Calder was made navigable to Wakefield in 1706 and has been improved in stages ever since. Woodnock Lock replaces Altofts Lock and Fairies Hill Lock which are on an old lock cut a few hundred yards to the south, now closed. |
