| Description |
English: Woolworths, Edgware Road, Swindon. This is the same store as is seen in this image 1102447 but from the other entrance. The store has been trading here many years - I can remember visiting it in the 1950s. It should have closed its doors for the last time today following the failure of the company after 90 years but will now close tomorrow. Woolworths originated in the USA as a 'five and dime' store. When they started trading in the UK 5 cents and 10 cents were converted to threepence (1.25p) and sixpence (2.5p). Everything was sold at one or other of those two prices. |
