Description

This is immediately inside the door. The operator remarked that many passengers fail to see it and try to go up to the "throne" to pay. The ORCA reader is even harder to find. The old vans did not have ORCA readers for quite some time, and this may have changed but I'm not sure because I've never ridden one.

The ramp is a bi-fold ramp. It deploys in about 2 seconds, but it's very steep. A passenger in a manual wheelchair could not wheel himself up the ramp. The operator did not kneel the coach and promised to do so when the passenger got off. It should be noted that the specification for kneeling only drops the bus two inches so I don't know if it was worth it. After the passenger admitted he couldn't get up by himself, the operator went down to help but a passerby was got there first.

It took at least 2 minutes to secure the passenger. The securement straps are located in a box behind the fold-up seats. Four are required for each passenger (a couple straps are mounted to the seats). The operator had trouble attaching them to the floor and tightening the straps all the way. I believe the straps are made by Q-Straint but I'm unsure of the model. There are round discs about two inches in diameter and maybe an inch and a half high that protrude from the floor that the straps attach to (you can see them here). Some sort of knob on the top locks them down. The operator admitted that she had only used the straps a couple of times and that she needed more practice.
