Description

"Portrait présumé de Marie-Anne de Bourbon, représentée en Cléopâtre. Vêtue d'une robe blanche garnie de dentelles au col et aux manches et agrémentée d'un ruban rouge corail, la princesse douairière de Conti est peinte de trois quart. Le manteau ducal bleu brodé d’or (elle est duchesse de la Vallière) sur l’épaule droite et une étoffe au motif « à la grecque » sur l’épaule gauche, elle s’apprête à tremper une perle en poire dans une coupe contenant du vinaigre. Ce portrait allégorique évoque le récit de Pline l’Ancien relatant le défi lancé par Cléopâtre à Antoine." [1]
