Notes | Jordaens asked the assistant of the Painters' Guild Abraham Grapheus de Graef to become his model for this painting. Thanks to his distinctive physiognomy he became a sought after model even for other Antwerpen masters, and even Jordaens painted him on several occasions. The model's pleading expression in his face suggest that the study served Jordaens as a source for another depiction of a certain saint figure, probably an apostle, whom he gave Grapheus's features. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
