Am 10. November 1918 gegen 5 Uhr morgens verließ der Kaiser im Kraftwagen das Hauptquartier im belgischen Spa. Gegen 7 Uhr morgens überquerte er mit Zustimmung der niederländischen Regierung die Grenze. Es war das Ende der preußisch-deutschen Monarchie, das Ende von 500 Jahren Regierung der Hohenzollern in Brandenburg-Preußen.

Die Standarte an seinem Wagen händigte der Kaiser beim Grenzübertritt einem jungen belgischen Offizier aus. Sie kam nach 80 Jahren über Den Haag, New York und München in den Besitz des Brandenburg-Preußen Museums.
