Summary edit

Description
English: As seen in September 2020, the Wyckoff-Garretson House stands at 215 South Middlebush Road at Six Mile Run in Franklin Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. Built about 1730, the house is a contributing property to the NRHP-listed Six Mile Run Historic District and serves as an excellent example of the vernacular residential architecture of the Dutch Colonial era, flanked by a pair of gable-end chimneys and with a floor plan set around a central hall. A son of Pieter Claesen Wyckoff whose home in Brooklyn is now the oldest extant building in New York City, Cornelius Pietersen Wyckoff (c. 1656-1746) grew so prosperous farming the 200 acres he owned in New Lots that, in 1701, he bought another huge tract of land in Somerset County, New Jersey, and helped found one of the first Dutch communities in the central region of the state. He's also the photographer's 8x great-grandfather.
