Wymondham Abbey, Norfolk, stained glass circa 1840 believed to have been designed by Joseph Grant of Costessey. Heraldry:

  • Left: Azure fretty argent, on a fess gules three leopard's faces or with a crescent for difference (Cann of Compton Greenfield, Gloucestershire (Papworth, John Woody, Alphabetical Dictionary of Coats of Arms Belonging to Families in Great Britain and Ireland, Vol.II, London, 1874, p.792) impaling: Gules, a fess raguly argent between three boar's heads couped of the second langued azure (Judd) (Papworth, John Woody, Alphabetical Dictionary of Coats of Arms Belonging to Families in Great Britain and Ireland, Vol.II, London, 1874, p.762)  ;
  • Right: Argent, a fret gules
"In the town (of Wymondham) is an extensive brewery, belonging to Messrs. Cann and Clarke" (William White's History, Gazetteer, and Directory of Norfolk 1845[1]). Possibly for Rev. John Stephenson Cann, Jnr, (d.1861), Curate of Wramplingham (son of John Stephenson Cann, Snr, of Wymondham) who in 1829 married Mary Anne Flaxman of Sidestrand. Arms of Flaxman not given in Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884. (Biolgraphical History of Gonville and Caius College 1349-1897, p.151[2]). On 11 June 1783 at Reepham, Norfolk, John Stephenson CANN, of Wymondham married Miss Sarah BIRCHAM, daughter of Mr William BIRCHAM, of Reepham.
