Polski: 10 września 1939 roku wojska niemieckie wkroczyły do Wysokiego Mazowieckiego. Ta brzemienna w skutkach napaść pochłonęła wiele ofiar oraz pociągnęła za sobą zniszczenia. Drewniane zabudowania miasta zostały spalone, zabito żywy inwentarz. Szacuje się, że w trakcie ataku Niemców na miasto zniszczono ponad 80 % zabudowań. Ocalały jedynie kościół i cerkiew prawosławna oraz kilka domów w południowej części miasta. 27 września 1939 roku Armia Czerwona zajęła zniszczone miasto, w którym przebywała do 22 czerwca 1941 roku. |
