| Description |
Saariselkä is a winter sports center in Lapland, Finland. The daytime is very short in winter (2-4 hours). In December - January the sun doesn't rise at all, it is the polar night. Wikitravel: "Many tourists come to Saariselkä to gawk at the aurora borealis. While they occur with a probability as high as 75% every night in season (November to March or so), they are all too often obscured behind a bank of clouds so don't count on it." I didn't see any trace of the the northern lights during the three nights I spent there, although the sky was mostly clear and the temperature was between -10 and -20. But the nature and the light are fantastic. |
