Description

Following my tour of York Minster I strolled round the Dean's Palace Gardens and had a look at the facade of the Minster Library and Archives. The library is open to the public and I rather wanted to go in for a look around but felt self-conscious for want of a better reason than a tourist's gawp. Cowardice persuaded me that I lacked time, what with a full afternoon's cycling in front of me to get east to Beverley and all..

The Library holds the extensive historic printed collections of The Chapter of York, as well as a modern reference and lending library. With more than 120,000 books on their shelves the collection comprises; local history, early York printing, Civil War tracts, church history, architecture and theology through the ages.
