$15,000 rock that was to be used as an exchange for the purchase of the Tioga Pass Toll Road in 1915.

In 1915 Stephen Mather and others purchased the Tioga Pass Toll Road for $15,000, but the Department of the Interior was unable to legally accept an outright donation. The rock was to be exchanged for the road, but legislation was passed allowing the road to be donated, marking the first of many private donations to the National Park Service.
