English: The Japanese battleship Yamato and a heavy cruiser, possibly Tone or Chikuma, in action during the Battle off Samar, 25 October 1944. There are three or four U.S. Navy planes visible, one is under fire in the foreground. The photo was taken from an aircraft from the escort carrier USS Petrof Bay (CVE-80).
