Summary edit

Description
English: The Yantis-Loder House, 58 Robie Street, Buffalo, New York, September 2020. The classification of this 1897 house under the aegis of the Colonial Revival style is almost entirely due to the exquisite Classical detailing on the façade: rows of ornamental festoon reliefs in the woodwork are found crowning the second-floor twin bay windows and dormer as well as interspersed between the brackets under the eaves of the roof on the side elevations, and each front corner of the façade is styled as a fluted Doric pilaster to match those on the balustraded front porch. The hipped roof, unusual in Colonial Revival architecture, instead points the way toward the Prairie-influenced American Foursquare style that would come to prominence in the opening decades of the following century. The house's original owners have been identified as Stoner W. Yantis (1860-1933), a Kentucky-born grain and feed dealer who kept his office at the Board of Trade Building and resided here until 1899, and then Robert Loder (1859-1914), the founder of the Buffalo Mill Supply Company who owned the house until his sudden death of a "complication of diseases".
