Français : Yates F. attr. - Ink - Marine - 10.5x7.5cm; cette encre miniature provient d'un album amicorum de dessins et aquarelles de différentes mains, constitué entre 1878 et 1887. Le monogramme FY laisse penser qu’il s’agit ici d’une œuvre de jeunesse de Frederic Yates, dans sa période parisienne d’études de la peinture, entre 1881 et 1886 (l’album en question avait une provenance française). Le monogramme ne correspond pas à sa signature ultérieure, mais l'hypothèse semble crédible (la signature a pu évoluer, d'autant plus qu'il s'agirait des débuts de l'artiste). Compte tenu du sujet, le dessin a pu être réalisé en 1886, peu avant le retour de Yates aux Etats-Unis, une façon de dire "au revoir" au propriétaire de l'album... |
