| Description | Ambassador Shapiro attended memorial (Yom Hazikaron) ceremonies at the Yigal Alon Comprehensive High School (Amal Network) and ORT Lilienthal High School in the city of Ramla. The ceremonies commemorated fallen Israeli soldiers who have lost their lives defending the State of Israel. Ambassador Shapiro gave greetings to bereaved parents, school administration, graduates who are currently serving in the IDF and hundreds of students. The Ambassador affirmed that Israel’s freedom has come at a great cost and it is due to these soldiers that Israel remains a free and democratic state - “their sacrifice leaves a hole in the hearts of the entire nation of Israel”. The Ambassador also stated that "Allies stand by each other in good times and in bad. Tonight we will join you in celebrating Israel's 64th Independence Day. But today when Israel remembers its fallen heroes, America joins you in your grief and remembers with you." The ceremonies were also attended by the Mayor of Ramla Yoel Lavi. |
