Summary
editDescriptionYore Bridge, Aysgarth - geograph.org.uk - 431362.jpg |
English: Yore Bridge, Aysgarth The bridge was described as 'old' by Leland in the 16th century. The downstream face [seen here] is part of the rebuilding and widening in the late 18th century by John Carr, who was bridge surveyor and engineer for the North Riding at the time. The upstream face is quite different. A limekiln a few yards beyond the bridge on the left bank of the river was the likely source of the lime mortar for the bridge improvements. |
