Description
English: A U.S. Navy Douglas TBD-1 Devastator (BuNo 0319) of torpedo squadron VT-5 from the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-5) flies over Salamaua, New Guinea, just before attacking Japanese shipping in the Huon Gulf, on 10 March 1942. The aircraft pictured was piloted by Lieutenant Commander Joe Taylor. The TBD-1 0319 was stricken from the U.S. Navy's inventory on 12 October 1943 and scrapped.
