Description
English: A scan from a slide taken during a 1993 visit. The rock known as the monastery complex is closed to visitors because it poses a great danger. It consists of four levels and its natural large cupola is very striking. As some of the many rock hewn spaces in the complex were used for religious purposes, the locals considered it to be a monastery. The access between the spaces is by means of labyrinth-like narrow long tunnels and shafts. In some places there are millstone doors like the ones found in the underground settlements. The lower levels were mainly used as stables, in the upper levels were living areas.
