Zeynab is a 35 year old mother of six from Diff village in Afmadow district.

“When I wake up, the first thing on my mind is how to get enough water and food for my family. There is not enough water here because most water points dried up. The water I get from the nearest borehole is salty but I have no choice but to use it. A 20 litre jerry can of water costs about $12 - I can’t spend that much on water when I also have a family to feed. When it doesn’t rain, we’re in trouble. Sometimes there is a shortage of food and prices go up. Because of the drought, we’re always in fear of losing our livestock – some have already died. There have been some changes that give me hope that things might get better. In the mean time, I will continue waking up with clean water and food on my mind. There is no life without these two things.”
