Actually the image this is supposed to replace is used on articles comparing e.g. A4 and letter, so I will add Letter and Legal to the image if I have the time. Shinobu 11:18, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you really think of a replacement, I can of course easily add these four lines, even if I didn't want to make a replacement. --Sven 20:11, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

If the non-A sizes are really a bother, we could perhaps have two versions, one with, and one without letter etc. Shinobu 10:25, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Suggesting improved version edit

I liked this image, so I decided to try to make it even better. I now suggest Image:A size illustration2.svg as an improved version. The following are the significant differences between the old an the new image:

  • Changed gradients to solid colours for a cleaner look (Sorry, I bet you had quite a bit of work with those gradients.)
  • Text labels now have transparent backgrounds, rather than white boxes.
  • The image is scaled so that the different elements of the diagram now actually have the sizes they are said to have (or at least very close to it). :-)
  • Long dimension lines are placed outside shorter subsections of it, as I believe is considered good practice.

Could we accept these changes and start using the new one? —Bromskloss 13:49, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fine with me. Could you also do one with Letter and Legal? The articles about those topics as well as w:Paper size still have the raster image because of that. Shinobu 04:43, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I could do that when I get the time. (You are of course welcome to beat me to it.) Also, Image:B size illustration.svg and Image:ANSI size illustration.svg should get the same remake, each perhaps with a colour scheme of their own. With a bit of care, these different images could be presented on pages in sizes so that they are in the same scale and can be compared to eachother, which would be neat. That may require some attention to the text labels, though – we might not want the text to have different sizes just because the papers they are illustrating do. Finally, should the images already in use be replaced with new versions (with the same file name) so that the new automatically turn up on all pages where the old were used, or should they get new names and be inserted manually on all pages? I'd like the former, but I don't want to step on anyones toes by completely removing the old versions. —Bromskloss 12:24, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK, I've done it all now. Here they are:

Ah, yeah, the ANSI sizes too.

Minor corrections edit

The size labels for A0 through A5 do have a white background, the ones for A6 through A8 do not. A9 and A10 are missing, their dimensions might be left out, though. It ould be nice to clean the source code from proprietary Inkscape stuff and provide self-explaining IDs. the preceding unsigned comment is by 77.128.174.161 (talk • contribs)

I think there's no more need for these improvements, we've already got a couple of better versions of this file provided by Bromskloss. :-) --Sven 20:51, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
