Fair use with permission edit

I've tagged this with an OTRS ticket number to indicate permission was received for non-commercial use. I'm still not certain this is valid fair-use. The big problem is that free alternatives do exist. However, the only one I could find is File:Edaphosaurus cross-hatching.jpg, which has distracting skeletons behind the one we're supposed to be looking at. Free alternatives like this photo could be easily created, either by going to one of these museums and taking a photo like these, or by simply asking the owners of those photos for permission to relicense. I don't normally deal with permission fair use, so I'll defer to the expertise of others in this area.--Chaser (talk) 17:13, 7 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Your logic seems unflawed. I'm contacting the photographer to see if he still wants it on Wikipedia, and if so, whether he'd mind releasing it freely for commercial use. If denied, I'll certainly grab one of the others. Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 20:29, 7 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
He's loosened the permission, since he was originally fairly excited that his work was going on Wikipedia. I've responded to your email and included the discussion log. Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 22:13, 7 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
