Where did the book get the picture

Statue by Giovanni Paganucci, completed in 1863, in the Camposanto di Pisa

According to the details of this file it was scanned from the book Dall'opera I benefattori dell'umanità; vol. VI, Firenze, Ducci, 1850.

Notice in that book, that each personality is depicted with an image in a similar style.

I thought perhaps the illustrator got the image from the statue, but that was completed only in 1863, 13 years after the book's printing. So its probably vice versa.
