Red edit

According to the English Wikipedia article, the shade of red is Pantone 485 C, but the file color is Pantone 186 C. Are there any official specifications regarding the color? What is causing this discrepancy in color? 98.213.225.105 12:04, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

According to the Decree-Law No. (4) of 2002, the red part of the flag is supposed to be dark red.... or least that is what Google Translate is showing me.
The recent Kingdom of Bahrain Flag Guidelines (published in 2022) shows that the red colour is to be represented with Pantone 485C. The flag guidelines also provide an equivalent hex value (#da291c).
Several things to note (in no particular order):
  • The Kingdom of Bahrain Flag Guidelines is not a legal document, but in absence of a legal definition for the colour dark red, it would be reasonable to treat it as a source of truth.
  • The 2012 Olympic flag manual also shows 485C. Take that for what it is worth, but consistency is always nice.
  • The hex number #da291c matches the value provided for 485C by Pantone itself. The consistency is nice to see.
  • In my opinion 485C is not dark red, and it certainly is not the colour of martyr's blood that it is supposed to represent; but my opinions on such things are not relevant here.
  • The Flag Guidelines also show that the white colour is to be represented with Pantone 485C. Oops; that would make for a solid red flag; somebody made a mistake. At least the hex code for white is listed as #ffffff.
  • The flag images in the Flag Guide are rendered with #d11e27 which is a slightly darker shade of red than 485C. This sort of inconsistency is painful to see.
And if you want to know where the 186C came from, it was likely from Album des pavillons via Flags of the World (FOTW). Neither of these are official sources.
I am going to update the colour of this SVG file to #da291c (Pantone 485C). MapGrid (talk) 19:16, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
