Reason for the deletion request: COM:DW, COM:PS. Commons is not an art community and it is a copyright violation since it is derived from a copyrighted photograph (you cannot circumvent copyright this way; if you use a photo as a template to take the characteristic elements and make a painting out of it, you need a license and need to pay license fees, since you are building upon the work of the photographer. And such pictures are strictly forbidden in Wikipedia anyway, as they are original research and a crime against encyclopedic integrity.

A couple of remarks to the above request for deletion:
  1. I agree with your statement that wikipedia is not an art community.
  2. I do not know on what basis you substantiate your claim that it's a copyrighted photograph that was used. Based on the looks I would guess it could be derived from [1], which under Dutch copyright law would be in the PD for it is from an unknown author and publication took place more than 70 years ago (in casu 1933 according to the license).
  3. There is therefor no legal requirement, or even basis to pay a license fee as you suggest.
  4. In all modesty original research seems to refer to something entirely different. I would argue that making a drawing of something, as would making a photograph or drawing a diagram, can not be called research.
  5. Similar and finally using statements like "a crime against encyclopedic integrity" for something like this sounds to me like a gross overreaction.

It's clear that you do not like the picture, but I think your logic is flawed and the final two statements are potentially offensive for the exaggeration that is implicit in them.WikiFB3 23:11, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
