File talk:Indiana quarter, reverse side, 2002.jpg

What's the point of having this file? Why should articles link to this version instead of the loss-less PNG version? They're both large, hi-res files. --Tysto 17:37, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thumbnails of this image are much smaller than thumbnails of the PNG version. For example, w:State Quarters uses 100px thumbnails. The PNG thumbnail to the right is 28474 bytes, while the JPG is only 4437.
This is why one should always use a very high quality setting when producing a JPG file. Although the file will be large, the thumbnails that are used in articles won't be any bigger. dbenbenn | talk 18:23, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
