Gulf of Sidra or Sirt?

The gulf can be called either, but we need to pick one or the other as we have multiple edits with each using a different name. Looks like Gulf of Sirte was used during WWII, and Gulf of Sidra being used most often today, like with the Gulf of Sidra incidents. Looks like Sidra is more mainstream to me. Oops... Gulf of Sidra is more common in English. I was thinking about خليج سرت (Gulf of Sirt) which is how it's called in Libya.-- Rafy (talk) 21:51, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Transliteration

This is a nice map, thanks for creating it. Since it is obviously meant to accompany, File:Libyan Uprising.svg, it would be a good idea to use the same convention for the transliteration of city names (e.g. Sirte > Sirt, Ben Jawad > Bin Jawad, etc.). --Dbachmann (talk) 10:21, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

The larger scale would allow us to display some strategic detail not included in the overview map. Including, perhaps, roads (mainly the coastal road), and the important refineries at Ras Lanuf and Mersa Brega. Control of these two ports is of very high strategical importance, both for the ability to export oil and to refine crude oil for fuel. Especially the w:Ras Lanuf Refinery alone accounts for more than half of Libya's total output of petroleum products. It may also be worth noting that the district boundary between Sirt and Al Wahat shown in the map is also the historical boundary between Cyrenaica and Tripolitania. --Dbachmann (talk) 10:44, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
