Digitized copies of these maps are available at USGS Geosciences and Environmental Change Science Center, Digital Representations of Tree Species Range Maps from "Atlas of United States Trees" by Elbert L. Little, Jr. (and other publications). The PDF files available there show a striping problem when opened with and exported from Adobe Arobat, which makes them undesirable for use as Wikipedia illustrations unless they are cleaned up. However, if the PDF files are opened and rasterized directly in Photoshop (CS6 anyway), the striping problem does not occur.
