Formula One

motorsport championship held worldwide

Formula One, abbreviated to F1 (and also known unofficially as Grand Prix racing), is the highest class of single-seat open-wheel auto racing. It is a worldwide sport, with two annual championships running in parallel: World Drivers' Championship and World Constructors' Championship. It is the 8th most expensive sport in the world, as annual team budgets average in the hundreds of millions of US dollars. The championship is run over a series of races (21 in 2019), known as Grands Prix (plural of Grand Prix), on custom-constructed road courses or closed-off street circuits.
