Lituya Bay megatsunami

English: On 9 July 1958, a rockslide in w:Lituya Bay caused an enormous tsunami estimated at 1,720 feet (524 meters) tall.

  Damage to the spur immediately opposite the rockslide. Trees and soil were stripped away to an elevation of 1720 feet (524 meters) above the surface of the bay.

  Damage at the mouth of the bay, some 7 miles (11.3 kilometers) from the slide.

  Spruce tree shattered by the wave's impact.
