The Mediterranean Sea is a sea connected to the Atlantic Ocean by the Strait of Gibraltar and to the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea, by the Dardanelles and the Bosporus respectively. The 163 km (101 mi) long artificial Suez Canal connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea. The sea is bordered by Europe, Asia and by Africa.
