The Herbarium of the University of Neuchâtel comprises some 455,000 specimens of lichens, mushrooms, algae, mosses, ferns, conifers and flowering plants. The collection dates to the mid 1700s, and is continually enriched by specimens made by local researchers and students. The important Swiss herbarium has some 100,000 specimens, many made by notable collectors including Louis Agassiz.
