Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth II
The library is part of the Jubilee Street development that has finally after 30 years of wrangling filled the space between Church Street and North Road that was an eyesore. The original Jubilee Street was filled with small houses and workshops that had been gradually cleared from the 1950s until the last buildings came down in 1977.
Jubilee Line - named for Queen Elizabeth II's 1977 Silver Jubilee following a pledge made by the Conservatives in the Greater London Council election of 1977. The original choice of battleship grey for the line's colour was based on the naval meaning of the word fleet; this became a lighter grey, representing the silver colour of the Jubilee itself.
