Stamps of South African Republic and British Transvaal
Transvaal has been a strongly disputed region of South Africa, conflict area between Dutch and UK emigrants. Republic founded in 1836 by Dutch emigrants. Ruled by Great Britain between 1877 and 1881 after the first anglo-boër war, and during the second war in 1900 (VRI Victoria Regina Imperatrix). Again independent until 1902. Merged in South Africa in 1910.
