Sorting edit

If you want the images sorted, fine, sort them but do it alphabetically and don't delete images or descriptions.--www.alpakka.org 15:13, 24 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am sorry that I offended you. I do not delete images, and I also do not intend to sort images alphabetically, as this is already done in the categories. What the galleries are for, and what I try to help whenever there is a chance, is to present the images in a sorted fashion: according to illustrative value, quality and contend.
About the descriptions – long descriptions in the gallery are imho not very good. They take up space and are not readable to everyone, and I always try to keep things as international as possible. Also most descriptions are not vitally needed in the gallery, als the images speak for themselves most of the time. For further and accurate information in multiple languages there is always the page of the image itself. For example, 'cat looks at alpaca' is not a vital info for the gallery page – you can see that yourself or read it on the image page. Also, locations are not of interest most of the time in galleries; someone looking for an image of an alpaca will not first and foremost care if it is from zoo xy or not – s/he can look that up on the image page, or search for the zoo or its category.
About the sorting for image value: the first gallery images are those you would use first and foremost: full-body pictures of the animal, in its natural or as-similar-as-possible habitat, a herd with differently-aged and -positioned animals, quality images, etc. Further back are the generic shots, those with lower illustrative value, low resolution, non-quality ones from zoos etc. I sincerely hope that this made my intentions more clear, and showed that this was not an attack against your contributions. So long ~ Winterkind 10:33, 25 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the explanation. I was a bit put off by the fact that after you had edited the gallery, images were gone and descriptions as well, and the change was just labeled "Sorted". But I understand your intentions, although I don't agree on all. My intentions for adding my images was to show a more diverse alpaca universe. Also, our alpacas are considered prime examples of top fiber producing alpacas. The cat was just a curiosity. There is room for that as well.--www.alpakka.org 11:19, 25 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, as you saw now I did not and would never intend to delete good images, as yours objectively are (besides I subjectively also think they're pretty). I had just put the images a bit lower, after the good full-body/natural habitat images, as described above, and the wool image together with another in a misc section. If it was not so clear, the 'not vital' comment was only meant about the description underneath, not the images itself. What I meant was that those descriptions are not immediately important for someone searching for alpaca pics, and are readily available on the image page itself, where further info and translations can be put. Sorry for any misunderstandings. ~ Winterkind 12:57, 25 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
