Template:ISA Tool/Instructions for players

Instructions for players

The campaign coordinator is the one who decides during the campaign setup which category (or categories) of images will be considered in the campaign and which type of metadata; depicts and/or captions can be asked from the participants.

As a user, to access the list of campaigns, you can go to the Campaign Directory or you may reach a campaign by an announcement by the coordinator in any platform to reach interested participants. Some campaigns will be archived (closed) while others will be available to join (opened). Select any open campaign you like!

To join the action, you need to be logged-in.

This may be done on the top right. The way the system works is that you will log-in to your Wikimedia Commons account, and give authorization to the tool to save edits on your behalf. Anything you add or remove from the ISA tool will be directly recorded on Wikimedia Commons!

Once you are logged-in, Explore Campaigns to begin!.

You can search for a specific campaign, then choose :"Go to campaign"

Once on a campaign page, you will be provided with information related to the campaign...

  • how many images are concerned...
  • how many people already participated...
  • how many images were improved etc.

On the Campaign page, click "Get Started" to either:
a. Add 'Depicts': Provide brief descriptions linked to existing elements on WikiData.

Learn more:Commons:Depicts

b. Add 'Captions': Describe what's happening in the image.

Learn more : Commons:File captions

After modifying captions and depicts, you may return to the campaign page to see:

  • your participation rank
  • other contributor participation rank...
  • country participation (when relevant)
  • download participation stats!

Note: Default suggestions in the depict area come from Wikidata, so you can adjust the language preference.
