Do we want the Q-number to display when we have no other Authority Control numbers available?Edit

See: Category:Elbert Henry Gary where he has no VIAF or other external AC data, so no Q-number displays, so we have to add Template:Wikidata. If we can solve that we can now have one standardized template and can have a bot harmonize all the entries to the single template. Perhaps we can get Template:Authority Control to display the full "Wikidata has entry Q5353709 with data related to this item." when there are no other external identifiers, to make the creators of Template: wikidata happy. Richard In case of Category:Elbert Henry Gary it was a typo Template:Authority control does not have "wikidata" field and uses "Wikidata" or "Q" instead. It might make sense to make fields case independent. --Jarekt (talk) 16:09, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
I guess that was a poor example see Category:Ransford Dodsworth Bucknam and Category:E. Robert Schmitz and see if I made the same typo. Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 16:12, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
One had a typo and one had only "{{Authority control}}". At the moment {{Authority control}} does not try to guess the q-code --Jarekt (talk) 16:33, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
Category:Ransford Dodsworth Bucknam is using {{authority control|wikidata=Q17515219}} it shouldn't have to guess the q-code, it just does not display the Q-number if there are no other external identifiers. Or am I typing in the template wrong? It would be best if it displayed "Wikidata has entry Q5353709 with data related to this item." when there are no external identifiers. That way we use some of the space, and we can no have to use the other template. Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 21:48, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
It was a typo again. Strakhov (talk) 21:56, 6 November 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, it looks like it was me typing in a small "w" for Wikidata causing the problem. Is there anyway to make a small "w" for Wikidata work in the template? Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 05:11, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
Fixed I switched to case independent input arguments. It is relatively easy with Lua and I should probably do it for other Lua-based templates. --Jarekt (talk) 13:18, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
  • Looks perfect!

Now that template:Authority_control does the function of template:Wikidata can we substitute one for the otherEdit

Now that template:Authority_control does the function of template:Wikidata can we substitute one for the other, and only have template:Authority_control. Can we do the substitution in an automated manner? The old template contains the Q-number, but it needs to be formatted differently. Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 15:38, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

For people I would rather use Template:Wikidata person --Jarekt (talk) 16:14, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

While we are updating AC templates please see my proposal at English Wikipedia to copy the Russian format into the English WikipediaEdit

The Russian Wikipedia adds in the most common external links to the AC template, making them standardized and very compact. Please come to wikipedia:Template talk:Authority control and see the difference and comment. Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 15:38, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

Category:Wrong wikidata code in authority control data: category itemEdit

Please not that, as a result of Commons:Categories for discussion/2018/02/Category:Wrong wikidata code in authority control data: category item, a category used by this template has been moved. The template should be updated to reflect this change. Thanks. - Themightyquill (talk) 22:40, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Expanding to use more generally than just people?Edit

Hi all. Would it be possible to significantly expand the number of ID properties that are shown in this template, so that it is useful in non-person cases? I'm currently using this in {{Wikidata Infobox}} for people, but I'm using my own (but apparently less-efficient) {{Wikidata ID}} otherwise so it can display more properties, which currently includes VIAF ID (P214), GND ID (P227), ISSN (P236), Rijksmonument ID (P359), OSM relation ID (P402), IMO ship number (P458), MMSI (P587), NRHP reference number (P649), Europeana ID (P727), World Heritage Site ID (P757), Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC) code (P808), BNE ID (P950), National Heritage List for England number (P1216), ID (P1483), Inventari del Patrimoni Arquitectònic de Catalunya code (P1600), COAM structure ID (P2917), SIMBAD ID (P3083), Patrimonio Web JCyL ID (P3177), Zaragoza monument ID (P3178), Patrimonio Inmueble de Andalucía ID (P3318), SIPCA code (P3580), DOCOMOMO Ibérico ID (P3758), Czech Monument Catalogue Number (P4075), Enciclopédia Itaú Cultural ID (P4399), Monumentos de São Paulo ID (P4360), Infopatrimônio ID (P4372), Hispania Nostra Red List ID (P4868), MuBE Virtual ID (P4721). Adding those that aren't currently in the infobox would be a good first step, but others would need to be added in the future. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 22:01, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

Support I will try to look into it (unless someone else wants to). --Jarekt (talk) 13:43, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
Done Mike Peel thanks for suggestion. --Jarekt (talk) 02:41, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

Category:Pages using authority control without Wikidata linkEdit

@Jarekt: Could this template page not be included in Category:Pages using authority control without Wikidata link, please? That led to this accidental edit today (but I should have checked better before saving the edit, so that bad edit is completely my fault, sorry!) Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 22:57, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Mike Peel, I am sorry but I am not sure what you are suggesting. How do you propose to alter Category:Pages using authority control without Wikidata link. --Jarekt (talk) 03:04, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
@Jarekt: No change to the category, but this template should not itself appear in the category. I.e., the category should be "includeonly". Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 23:47, 23 January 2019 (UTC)
I excluded all the templates from all the categories set by the template. --Jarekt (talk) 00:09, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
Return to "Authority control" page.
